I first read about Avid announcing a free version of Media Composer on DIY Photography and was excited to see such a powerful tool being made available at no cost to the end user. This is a great way to saturate the prosumer/hobbyist/YouTube market with an already dominated Premiere Pro and Final Cut software users.
My first inclination was that Avid will chalk this offer up with a bunch of hiding cost, but that is not the case, as it utilizes software licensing and not a traditional hardware key. That is pretty dang neat! Avid is planning on releasing Media Composer in late 2015, as it is still being developed. You can find out more details on Avid’s FAQ page
